Site News / News System Update
Last post by brian - Nov 27, 2007, 1:12 am
I have finished my first update to the new news system. By popular demand, clicking a news article displays it right below the headline. Try it and see... the power of AJAX, yet again. With the layout change, I was able to up the default number of articles from 20 to 25. I also took this opportunity to change my website to HTML 4.01 Strict. This will have a positive impact on those using IE on Windows, as the site should be more consistent with Firefox and Safari.

Site News / Here It Is - Updated News
Last post by brian - Nov 11, 2007, 10:48 pm
The updated news engine has made it's way into production. Sure, there's still a bit more to be done... but, it's already so much better than what was there before. It's been a while since the last update. Since then, there have been many minor updates (mostly security related). What do you think of the new news system? Let me know.

Site News / Theme Updates
Last post by brian - Apr 22, 2007, 8:23 am
The Themes have had their first update in quite a while. The forum had a color change, the gallery has been themed to match, and the rest of the site has had small updates to tie them together. The new image item on the home page now rotates among 10 images. If you are logged on, it includes pictures that are only viewable to registered users.  :)

Site News / Back to Work
Last post by brian - Apr 19, 2007, 1:15 am
It's been a while since I've done any work on this site. Mostly because I've been working on other sites. :P I've got a few things that I want to work on here... The news system will be one of them (I haven't forgotten it). New Today: Forums and Gallery are linked! That's right, one login for both systems. This will streamline using this board and gallery. It also allows family members to post in the forums using only the family login.

Site News / Webmail and Development
Last post by brian - Dec 1, 2006, 7:22 pm
Webmail received a major update today. It now has a preview pane that is enabled by default. Check it out, to see what I mean. Meanwhile, I'm working on a news aggregator to replace the javascript feed on the Home Page. Work is moving slowly, but the end results will be fantastic.

Site News / AJAX... What Can I Say
Last post by brian - Oct 17, 2006, 1:11 am
It has been a long time since I have seen something that was revolutionary. I believe AJAX technology on the web is. Take for example the new weather code. Move the mouse over the days of the week. What do you think? That's AJAX.  ;D The possibilities are endless.

Site News / Some of Everything
Last post by brian - Sep 4, 2006, 11:08 pm
Nothing major... Top level heading (with the shading) has been removed. A bit more available screen space now. Forums and Gallery had minor updates. WebMail has had a few updates. Small issues with the new code have been fixed. On the backend, security has been stepped up a bit. Required minor rewriting of the Links engine. Everything should be in good order.

Site News / Core Changes
Last post by brian - Aug 9, 2006, 12:31 am
In addition to many minor updates to WebMail, the big change is the elimination of HTML frames. The site has not lost this functionality, it is now managed by CSS code. Note the little lock icon in the title bar. The lock will "lock" the title bar at the top of the screen. If you are using IE 5 or IE 6... you won't see it. This new coding requires Safari, Firefox, Opera, or IE 7. I will continue working on adding new features to this site, it's just taking a bit longer than I had hoped.  :-\

Site News / Bits and Pieces

Weather is Ajaxified- adding an update indicator, auto-refresh, and other good stuff on the backend. I am using the script.aculo.us Ajax engine. Home page has improved CSS code for the columns. Minor updates to Gallery and Webmail have been completed. The Family page now has improved reliability when accessing the Gallery. If you log off the Gallery, visiting the family page will automatically log you back in.

Site News / Weather... It's Faster
Last post by brian - Jun 7, 2006, 12:00 am
With a bit of "blood, sweat, and tears" ;D I have re-written much of the weather code. I gutted what I wasn't using and optimized what I was. You should notice quite a difference in performance. CSS in place of a nested IFRAME fixed part of the problem. Then there was the cache cleaning code that did nothing. I'm sure I could do more. Perhaps another day...
