Just when I thought I had redone everything, I forgot site search. Each new component had it's own search, designed to be fast and efficient. Meanwhile, the top search function relied on Google's indexing (and ads). I knew it could be better. AI to the rescue…
Trying to find an acceptable solution is no longer a battle of available products. This weekend I was struggling to find an application that made weather easy to view. Easy, like, not so great vision... want to read it at a glance, no struggle, no glasses, high contrast. Every app failed. Spend some money, then they have options. Back in the day (2025), we'd suffer and adapt, that was not the outcome…
One of the longest held items on my wish list was to replace the Forum. It was a blog, a calendar, and the site's user identity. It was never used for what it was designed for. Why did this take so long? Availability of a light-weight, integrated solution that does everything I want it to, without significant overhead. It did not exist…
Dark mode support has been added. It follows your browser's setting. The support has been added across the site. With the implementation, more of the site aligns with a consistent theme. Most of the changes are in Links on mobile and the menus and buttons for the Forum and Gallery…
I've added the Font Awesome library to the site. This enables better icons throughout. New icons for logon, lock, news categories, settings, location, and icons on the menu buttons. This change also solves the issue where browsers may convert some symbols into emoticons. The menu received a redesign with the icon addition…
I've created a dedicated weather page. The original weather widget that I built was constrained to fit in the space I allocated on my homepage. By having a dedicated page, I have more options for what to display and how to display it…
The Weather Code has changed. With Apple's acquisition of DarkSky, the feed was going to go dark soon... It took me a while to find a replacement. VisualCrossing is filling the gap. Their weather magnet is sleek, modern, and open source…
Moving towards better optimization, the number of background images on the site are being reduced. To keep form and function to point, this is being done by flattening the overall look. Many images have had minor adjustments to fit the updated style. Check the About page (link on the bottom of the page) to see how the site look has changed over the past years…
I updated the forum software to the upcoming v2.0 release and the gallery software to the upcoming v1.5 release. There are quite a few changes throughout with these upgrades. The new default theme has inspired a bit of a makeover on the site. Colors are changing, and styles will follow. Expect the rest of the site to slowly catch up.
The Links system has had a significant update. The template design has been updated to more closely match the Forum and Gallery. The ability to submit and update sites on the system has been modified to require an account on the site (which is free). The options will only appear when you are logged on. These features no longer have a Captcha requirement nor do they require entering your name and email any more. The Links system gets the information it needs from your site login…
